frequently inquired.
What is Hexed! Fest?
A fest dedicated to anything and everything BTS, witchcraft, and coven related! Ranging from high fantasy, to occult, to magical realism, and everything in between— all interpretations of witchcraft are accepted.
⠀
what is a "hexie"?
"hexie" is our loving nickname for those participating in hexed! fest. in order to become a hexie, all you need to do is participate in some way!
Do you have to have an AO3 to participate?
Yes, every writer will have to submit their work onto the Hexed! Fest Collection on AO3 to participate.
i want to participate, but i don't want to write. what can i do?
there are plenty of ways in which people can participate in hexed! fest, have no fear! even if you are not planning on writing a story, you are more than welcome to submit prompts or sign up as a beta. aside from that, we are accepting edits, artwork, playlists, headcanons, and anything else witchcraft related you can think of. check out our alchemist's week for more information.
⠀
what are check-ins?
Check-ins are when a mod contacts you, which allows us to see how you’re progressing in your work to help if needed and make sure you’ll be able to submit on time. There will be 3 mandatory, scheduled check-ins during the writing period. Only the final check-in has a minimum word count (250 words), the others do not. If a mod is not contacted and a check-in is missed, it can result in your claim being deleted.
⠀
is self-prompting allowed?
yes! You can submit a WIP you’ve been waiting to finish, or come up with a brand new idea! There will be a self prompt option provided you can claim if you wish to self prompt, and a private form for self-prompters to fill out.
⠀
How many prompts can I submit?
You’re allowed to submit up to 10 prompts!
can a writer claim more than one prompt?
Yes! You can claim up to 3 prompts, plus 2 self-prompts for a total of 5 prompts.
can multiple writers claim the same prompt?
No. A prompt can only be claimed by one writer, unless it is the self prompt. Once you have claimed your prompts, there will be a follow-up private form to complete.
can a prompt be dropped?
Yes. If you can’t continue on with the fest, you can drop your prompt before or on the last check-in. Please complete the drop-out form and then contact a mod once you do in order to drop-out.
are works anonymous?
they are during the claiming and fic reveal periods, the authors will be anonymous until the author reveal period at the end of the fest unless requested otherwise. Prompters have the option of prompting anonymously, but it is up to them. You can find out more about the reveal periods by checking the timeline. please do not post, tell, or share the prompts you have claimed with anyone else. should you wish to post for #wipwednesday that is fine, but please do not reveal your plot or prompt in any snippets you share.
what are the requirements for submitted works?
Works will need to be submitted by the due date unless an extension has been granted, the work does not include any DNWs and follows the fest rules, and meets the minimum word count of 1k. If the work is multi-chaptered, the first chapter must meet these requirements.
can i have an extension for my work if needed?
We’re willing to work with extensions if needed, but please contact a mod as soon as possible in light of the event you need one.
i'm writing a chaptered work. will future chapters of my work be promoted?
for works that have started as a part of hexed! fest, we are more than happy to continue promoting updates. simply message us on twitter or tag us and/or use our hashtags in the update posts, and we will be glad to share it.
are all ships allowed?
Yes! Both monogamous and polyamorous relationships, including OT7, are more than welcome. covens are also encouraged. Please keep your ships within BTS, as no other characters or original characters are allowed other than as minor characters.
are nsfw works allowed?
Yes, under the conditions that you properly tag everything in your work, all characters involved are 18+, and the author must be 18+ to write it. In order to write a NSFW piece, you must consent via private form that you are over the age of 18.
is cross-posting allowed?
This will be addressed on a case-by-case basis, so please contact a mod if you have any inquiries about it, and the other event will also need to approve of the cross-post. Please do not offer any prompts that have already been submitted in an ongoing fest, or claimed in any other fest or event.
can i submit a prompt if i'm not participating?
Yes! The more prompts, the better! We hope you enjoy all of our enchanting submissions.
does hexed! fest have any dnws?
Hexed! Fest will not be accepting any works that contain cis m-preg, underaged sex, necrophilia (supernatural entities and creatures brought back to life not included), or any Hogwarts/Harry Potter AUs. these DNWs also apply to any artwork, edits, or other forms of contributions to the fest. Any other DNWs specific to individual prompts can be found listed on the prompt itself.
what contact information will i have to share?
We will be asking if you are 18+, for your twitter account, and ao3 account; emails are encouraged, but not required. All information will be collected privately via a form.
i posted a wip for hexed! fest and you didn't retweet it, what should i do?
if it's been longer than a day and we haven't interacted with your post, please feel free to message it to us! make sure to use our #hexedwip and other hashtags to help us find your work! additionally, please make sure to not give away too much of your prompt when posting snippets, since the goal of the fest is to remain anonymous until author reveals. if we're worried your post may reveal too much, we will ask you to adjust it or take it down.
are the mods 18+?
yes. mod ✂ is 22 and uses he/him pronouns, mod 🔮 is 28 and uses he/him pronouns, and mod ✨ is 22 and uses she/they pronouns.
can i get kicked out of hexed! fest?
yes. we are implementing a 3-strikes-and-you're-out approach as a measure to ensure that participants actively follow the fest's guidelines, and so that everyone is treated equally. if you are unsure of anything, please consult our carrd, twitter, and ao3, and feel free to ask us directly via twitter DMs or our curiouscat. we promise that we are very understanding and that there are no silly questions! if you are ever unsure, please just ask and we will gladly assist you! ( updated 12/17. )
are you still missing the answer to a mystery you have? if so please feel free to contact a mod or check for more information on our ao3 collection and twitter.

rules.
At least one main character must be a witch, with an overall plot and/or setting focusing on the existence and/or use of magic.
Any genre of magical setting is allowed with the exception of Hogwarts AUs. supernatural/mythological species (including familiars) are allowed as long as at least one BTS member/main character is a witch. covens are accepted and encouraged. Any interpretation of witchcraft and witches based on culture, source material, etc is allowed— but please make sure they are a witch.
1 ) You MUST be +18 if you’re planning to submit a NSFW work, and consent that you are 18+ via the claiming & contact form. We will be checking.
2 ) you must complete the claiming & contact form if you are writing, and any other forms that may apply.
3 ) The minimum word count for your work is 1k. If the work is multi-chaptered, this applies to the first chapter. only the first chapter must be done by the due date.
4 ) When prompting you must submit any DW (Do Wants) and DNW (Do Not Wants). If there are not any DNWs listed, the claimant can write any subject matter that is not one of hexed! fest's DNWs. Please specify all of what you want the author to write and to not write, but leave room for creative interpretation and flexibility.
5 ) Your work must not contain any of Hexed! Fest’s DNWs, which are: cis m-preg, underaged sex, necrophilia (supernatural entities and creatures brought back to life not included), or Hogwarts AUs. please contact a mod as soon as possible if you are uncertain if your work contains these subjects.
6 ) You must PROPERLY tag your fic, including indicating if it is nsfw and any offensive/triggering material.
please understand that these rules are in place for the safety and comfort of hexies, the integrity of our fest, and the bts fanfiction community as a whole. failure to comply with these rules can result in your claim being deleted and possible blacklisting from future events.
